Yes, what he did was horrific, disgusting and cowardly. But for some reason people forget that, at one point, he was a Marauder. They obviously loved and trusted him enough to make him Secret Keeper in the first place. He was absolutely not just somebody that tagged along with James, Sirius and Remus. Do you honestly think they would have bothered being his friend if they didn’t think he was worth it?
The whole “True Marauders” thing is ridiculous. That was their school nickname, and Wormtail was their friend at that time.
